This is somewhat surprising since much of the scope of practice policy debates centers around prescriptive authority and controlled substance prescribing of nurse practitioners. In our early research on prescribing patterns, we compared in a national sample of Medicare patients the prescribing patterns of beneficiaries who receive care predominantly from NPs compared to https://www.ncsbn.org/15185.htm ©2021 National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. Third, NP supply has increased substantially in rural and the low-income areas, exerting an increasingly important role in addressing the critical demand for access to care where the need is the greatest. Fourth, extensive evidence has shown that NPs demonstrate clinical performance comparable with primary care https://www.ncsbn.org/15185.htm ©2021 National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. In addition, studies have reported higher patient satisfaction among patients seen by NPs than those seen by primary care physicians.

Here, we found that driving under the influence and violation of Controlled Substances Act were the main crimes reported to the boards of nursing, and probation is the most common disciplinary action taken by the board. In addition, we found that boards tend to impose more serious board actions, such as license revocation or license suspension, in response to more serious crimes, such as sexual offense or crimes related to nursing practice. https://www.ncsbn.org/15185.htm ©2021 National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. All rights reserved. 2 These are the examples of criminal convictions related to nursing practice. Here, we see violation of Controlled Substances Act is the most common one.

The first thread is what we call foundational literature, and that literature spans a little bit farther back in time, but it relates to prevalence rates, risk factors, how we measure that, regulatory considerations, and so forth. The second emerging thread that I've noticed takes more of a critical theory view of substance use in nurses. https://www.ncsbn.org/15185.htm ©2021 National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. All rights reserved. 2 We talk more about the context of substance use in nursing as a particular and unique profession in a high-stakes, high-pressured environment.

When we talk about entry-to-practice, it is this knowledge mastery required to enter and begin and become, as I like to call it, baseline confident. We are lifelong learners by nature. For registered nurses, advanced practice registered nurses, physicians, PAs, all https://www.ncsbn.org/past-event/2024-ncsbn-aprn-roundtable ©2024 National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc.
